Kinda...If I go about a mile uphill I can see the Buttes off in the
distance.  World's smallest mountain range, literally.  They are
gorgeous, but if you ever get the chance to hike them make sure you
take precautions against snattlerakes, the buttes have an
abundance.
Lake county has some pretty cool building codes, a bit more flexible
than in my county, but my county will issue 'experimental' permits
sometimes.  Clearlake area is very pretty, but check the general
wind direction of your lot.  Much as I hate to say it, the shore
along hiway 20 frequently smells like dead fish.  And people are
advised not to eat too many of the fish from the lake.  Too much
mercury. Not a problem for me, I don't like to eat fish.  The people
are generally pretty friendly, tho!  And it's a wonderful place to
study geology and collect rocks!
Yuba county is a little less restrictive codewise than many other
counties in CA as well.  Generally speaking it seems that the
further north you go the more flexible the codes get.
I am adding a couple of rooms onto my old woodframe house.  It's
been in the family for 4 generations and could use a few
renovations, so am slowly working on improving it, and will add the
new rooms with pc.  My dad 'modernized' it in the 60's, so now I
am 'unmodernizing' it.  Also want to build a root cellar.  AAAGH!
If God keeps me alive until I finish all my projects I will live
forever!  Many ions in the fire.  Are you far from me or near?  I am
a bit less than halfway between sacramento and reno.
That open house thing at Calearth looks like it could be fun.
Unfortunately, I don't think I could travel that far very easily.
If you go, please let me know what you thought of it?
Best wishes, LCB
